Tech Notes

Keyboard configuration issues

When you get to the “name your character” screen, press Esc to return to the main menu. Choose Configure and set up your keyboard, mouse, sound and video configuration. Mplayer notes that the multiplayer settings are independent. Return to the main menu, choose Multiplayer, name your character and play.

Once the multiplayer configuration has been saved, later Mplayer sessions should only require you to set your name before entering the game.

Saving settings for AvP online

  1. Join an Mplayer game.
  2. Choose your profile.
  3. At the “Enter Name” screen, press Escape.
  4. Check the multiplayer configuration settings and adjust them if necessary.
  5. Select Multiplayer. The nickname from the selected profile should appear.
  6. Continue into the game using the saved multiplayer settings.

The Mplayer guide also gives a shorter procedure: find a game, join the game, select the profile, press Escape at the Name Character screen, select Multiplayer, confirm the profile name appears, and continue into the game.

Host migration issue

If the original host leaves after launch, AvP can migrate hosting to another player. The historical problem documented by Mplayer is that somebody entering later from the lobby may still try to connect to the original host IP address and time out because the host has migrated.

Mplayer recommends gathering everyone before launching, or hosting a new game and waiting for players to join before starting.
